The parabolic curve controls funneling to reduce chipping and cracking. Heads should be restored to their original shape with hand files as needed. The tough steel alloy is machined and differentially heat-treated for optimal performance. The hardness of the striking head is reduced to aid toughness and add qualities that result in slower strike-surface formation.
